Poor Max the Jack Russell from East Finchley was diagnosed with Lungworm, he'd lost his appetite and his owner thought he was depressed. The family vet at first thought that Max had all the symptoms of cancer but decided to put him on a course of antibiotics which happily brought little Max back to his usual exuberant self, bounding around the garden.
Max's owner said: “Lungworm is a horrible condition which dog owners need to be aware of and know what the tell tale symptoms are.”
Symptoms include irregular breathing, nose bleeds, bruising and general sickness.
However, while vets think it is important for dog owners to recognise these symptoms, the Royal Veterinary College study shows that only 36 per cent of vets have seen a case in the last year.
So keep an eye on your dogs and if they display any of the above mentioned symptoms, make sure you communicate them to your vet.
